Yay!

Do you think we'll have enough Canadians and Americans to field a friendly football match, given all that grass you mention?

Yeah, I've been here too long. Socker. It's like soccer, but in socks.

If we have a large field to play with, maybe we could dress up and have War of 1812 re-enactments....we might even let you guys win this time.

Watch the power of positive thinking...

You can make it Melee...you know you can. Really you can.

Look closely.

You are getting sleepy. No, scratch that. You are getting excited. Feeling patriotic. You have a strong urge for BBQ steaks and spray-can cheese. Toluca is but a mere 12 hours up the mountain.

Suddenly, you feel generous and want to bring many many beers.

Still trying to find the owners of the place across the street from my house. An American friend of mine suggested some place he knows in La Marquesa. He's gonna ask the owners how much. They have grills there as well as a kitchen but he says the place is not used much on Sat (not sure if I buy that or not). Anyway, I thought the Marquesa area has the advantage of being between DF and Toluca but the disadvantage of being a little difficult to reach by bus (not impossible, however).

Whaddyall think?

Toluca, we have a problem. A uniquely Mexican rain on our North American parade.

On July 2nd, a handful of Mexicans are going to vote in elections. The rest of the country will be sitting around lamenting ley seca - no alcohol sales or consumption on the 1st and 2nd.

Yes, we can buy drinkies a couple of days before, but we wouldn't be able to drink it at Chapultepec like you mentioned, Leigh.

Might have a handle on that Guy....

I made a reservation at a place in La Marquesa ... its private and has the amenities we require ... INCLUDING A GRILL! Very Happy ... so as long as you buy your beverage of choice before July 1... no problem! Will get more information up about the place and how to get there ASAP

Now we just need to get as many folks there as possible.

Im looking forward to Sam's famous Canada Day cake.

Should I bring 7-layer dip? ji ji ji

I'm of a mind to rent a car and haul up as many people as possible. Ever see how many circus clowns fit in a VW bug?

Either that or organize a posse and take the bus.

What's La Marqueso gonna run us?

The price I was given was 1600 pesos... I pay it up front and then put up a donation jar for folks to put in what they can.

As for getting there... Ill put up where to take the bus to for those who cant crowd into your ride, Guy... (though it will be interesting to see a VW bus open up with a bunch of English teacher spilling out! ji ji) Then we can either mark how to walk to the facility or if its too far/difficult, we'll put up cell phone #s to call to get a ride over. By hook or by crook, we'll get everyone there and back. I know of at least 4 of us coming from Toluca who have cars.

Hey... I got a map of the place we are having the shindig at
(OK despite my best efforts I cant get this map up. I put it on my website but cant remember how to link to it! Its been a while since I worked on my website. Whats the site that lets ppl put up pics to link to?)

Its a good map and we plan to put out groupings of red & white and red, white & blue balloons to make it easier.

This place not only has grass (you chilangos remember what grass is, right?) but it also has a BBQ grill, bathrooms and a kitchen we can use. Its a facility owned and used by Nestle for events. A guy who teaches English for them got us the place.

For those of you without a car and take the bus to Marquesa, pm or email me and Ill give you a couple of cell numbers you can call for pick up.

Now, whats everyone gonna bring??? I know Sami's bringing her Canada Flag cake! (still drooling) Im debating on one of several things though I still have one jar of really kick-a$$ BBQ sauce my son brought me from North Carolina.

I was just reading the paper, and it occurred to me, that's election day, right? You know what, I'm gonna vote that day, being a Mexican citizen. I've never voted before in my life, so this'll be something new.

I have pretty liberal/leftist leanings, but after watching the debate, I think I'm leaning towards that Caldern guy... pragmatism wins out over sentimentality. I figure, while I'm in Mexico I would prefer not to have another economic catastrophe.

Not sure I can do the vote thing and the Toluca outing on the same day.
