Just wondering if there was any chance of me getting a summer job in the UK as i am a Canadian citizen and do not have EU residency nor a university degree. On the other hand, I do have a CELTA and three years of teaching experience, and lots of kids. Just interested in hearing from people who know about this stuff. Thanks for any help, i really appreciate it. Take care. |

I'm not sure, but I would imagine it would be difficult to find ESL work in the UK without a university degree.
Also, it is impossible to get a job in the UK if you don't have the legal right to work there (EU passport, UK passport, ancestry visa, etc...).
Being that you are Canadian, you should be able to get a commonwealth visa. |

It is really difficult because most directors of studies don't want the hassle of employing someone without papers (or even with papers for that matter) when there are loads of teachers about who can work legally. You need to get your papers sorted first, and then maybe try contacting Harrow House in Dorset, as I know they have taken on South African teachers in the past (though I suspect they might have somehow had British passports). |

I made the post about the DoS at HH and want to be absolutely clear, it was the "principal" who was the problem. I'm glad to say that he no longer works there. The school itself was fine and pretty well equipped, don't let the TEFL Blacklist put you off sending a CV there now. |

Excellent news re: Harrow House then. I had to admit I was surprised to see it on the blacklist because those teachers I've met from there have been quite happy.
Good idea - send that CV to them! |
