I've been through this before..and I should've known better, but anyways...
I've been working on a landing permit for the last couple of months while my regular visa had been supposedly getting processed. I think my company had pulled my leg a little, and delayed it as long as possible. I got a measly little stamp in my passport next to my landing permit, with my visa application date, just before the landing permit expired a few days ago.
So for those of you in the know..what's my status right now? My employer tells me the actual visa should be about a month, but as long as I have the application stamp in my passport,I'm ok. Is this true, or is immigration going to tell me I overstayed my landing permit when I try to leave? Or what if I decided to leave tomorrow, permanently or on vacation, before actually getting the visa, or for some reason the visa process falls through and I don't get it?
Any advice is appreciated. Thanks. |

It sounds like you should be ok. Check out the website for Japan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
http://www.mofa.go.jp/j_info/visit/visa/13.html
It states that as long as an application is made before the current landing permission expires, you're safe. Better check for yourself, though. |

Your employer doesn't know a thing about when the visa will arrive. Only immigration knows, and the best they will tell you is a rough estimate.
If you've waited 2 months already, give it another week and a half, then start sweating.
If you leave now, you forfeit getting the visa, I believe. |
