My sister has been offered a job in HK through a christian organization to tutor through conversational english. The job pays $700 Canadian a month plus accomodations. Harsh, I know. But what i'm concerned about is that its being offered to her and she only has a highschool diploma. I thought this would be illegal.

What do you think about this offer??

It will be almost impossible for her to live on that kind of salary. What is the name of the organisation. If you tell us we can tell you if it is legit and known . PM me if you do not want it made public.

i know GAP year students from england used to come here and work for that salary and they survived. even though it is hard to beleive! and every school holiday they travelled around asia. to this day i don't know how they managed it but they did.
is your sister going to be on a volunteer visa rather than a working visa (as this salary doesn't qualify for a working visa) or just a tourist visa (working illegally)?

i don't think she even knows the details yet of what kind of visa she would be under. So if she is on a volunteer visa, it would be legal?

well if they get her a visa then it is legal. as long as she doesn't sign some fake contract saying that they are paying her alot more than $700C then everything must be above board. but she definitly won't be saving any money while she is here!
