I made several posts about how crappy Buckland is for a reason. I want to constantly remind people what a bad place to work for they are and let people know what they are really getting into. Being shipped off by an agent who set up in beautiful Yangshuo but has intentions of sending it's teachers to whomever pays the price. If you don't like what I have to say just keep it to yourself. Most of the disgruntled former teachers have probably given up on teaching in China and the current ones wouldn't dare say anything bad about Buckland for fear of being "blacklisted". Owen threatened to blacklist me. |

If you have nothing absolutely refreshingly new to say or add to this sordid story then I suggest you not badmouth Buckland.
Constructive criticism is welcome, but a rehash of old and potentially distorted complaints have no entertainment or information value!
While some teachers may have left China for good - perhaps it was good for China to see the rearside of them? - there have been others who put Buckland in an entirely different light!

Ah Jacob, my favourite waste of bandwidth. You previously told the forum you came to China to make money. Truly, that's the hallmark of a good teacher.
The people that use this forum are not idiots, they can use the "search" function to find previous topics. Endlessly repeating yourself is not helpful, it's obsessive.
People know what they are getting into when they read the contract before they sign it. A step you must have neglected as it came as a surprise that an agent contracted you out.
"If you don't like what I have to say just keep it to yourself." Nice public response to my PM, the filters would block my initial responses to this. But I'm sure it's a disappointment to an obsessive, arrogant, petty, pig-ignorant, greedy "teacher" such as yourself that other people hold different opinions. Are you this fanatical in the classroom? Do you shout down different opinions there? Way to respect and tolerate a diversity of opinion there boy.
This is China, getting blacklisted by a contract agent you don't use is like getting banned from a bar you don't go to. Get over yourself, you're not that big a deal and your petty grievances are not the hardship you make them out to be. |

I don't care what you have to say but this is about the dumbest suggestion I've seen on this board. You just made me a Buckland supporter. No way is he less rational than you. |

I did not go to China to make money, I would have gone to Japan if that was the case. That's why I've moved on to teach at a University for less pay and more stimulating teaching. I also didn't come to China so that some greedy Chinese a**hole could bleed the school for all the cash he could. I discovered that teaching in China IS all about money and it's really sad. Since when is teaching a for-profit enterprise? Only in China. That said, I would like to make a formal correction. "If you don't like what I've said then say whatever you please just don't tell me to stop posting my comments." When you guys wake up from your dream in China and realize that some people actually aren't dismissed from bad behaviour due to their Chinese differences you'll want to change things a bit too.
I make these postings every time the bitterness of Buckland resurfaces in my mouth which is usually about once a month. It takes me five minutes and gets my point out on a consistent basis. Make sense? My reasons are valid and unselfish. Buckland lied and told me he had a position in Guilin. Buckland had me sign a completely different contract in English than the one in Chinese that the school signed and never really sorted out the differences. Ou Wen was always "working" in Hainan when I tried to correct certain situations and didn't do his job on time. Ou Wen screws schools out of their deposit and that's just wrong. I taught the hell out of English and realized that my time was better spent elsewhere because of an inneficient con man acting as a headmaster of an English school.
I have talked with several Buckland teachers who have been told that there are positions in Guilin and are then sent far from Gulin where the have been given a cheap motel room for months instead of an apartment, have been sexually harassed and never trained to teach. That's what really bothers me. No experienced teachers work for Buckland. Sorry folks. I don't have much positive to say about Ou Wen and his Buckland Circus. If anyone could back me up on this I'd appreciate it. It's ok, don't be afraid. |

Thanks for the condescending reply. Your overuse of insultory language is not much of a big deal either. My contract was different than the schools contract and since they are in different languages it's even worse. I had no hardship besides feeling bad for the schools that Ou Wen takes advantage of and being stuck in a contract while it goes on. I was given all of the amenities a stupid, slightly insane "foriegner" english teacher could want. Duhh, China's like a vacation dude.

Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't realise you were a saint.
When you said previously "You see, I discovered that an English teacher in China can make over 20,000 RMB/month.", "It's not difficult to make a high salary teaching." and "It wasn't just me has come to this conclusion because I want more pay." in your post of (Thu Aug 07, 2003 5:09 am) I thought maybe you had some other motive than pity for schools.
I'm having some trouble finding "insultory" in my dictionary, it must be because I'm stupid.
I like Steiners response best actually, brevity is the soul of wit.
You're an obsessive that needs medication. |

I made that word up. Thanks for the lesson. Creativity is what separates innovation from mimickry. I can't imagine why anyone as intelligent as yourself would continue to bicker with a fool like me. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
If i'm so insane just let the posting fade into darkness... |

Dear Phillip,
I believe the correct spelling is ....ahem...i-n-e-f-f-i-c-i-e-n-t. Inefficient, like your use of bandwidth, use of time, etc...
I'd say that you should learn the hell out of English before teaching the hell out of it.
Get out ...play some ping-pong, have a pijou and a smile, but most importantly stop the whining. Some of us know much more about you than you might think. And the world is smaller than you know...especially amongst foreigners in China.

Nice blanket generalization.
My teaching experience of three years in Sichuan province did not indicate this to me at all. No, it WASN'T all about money. Students and teachers genuinely wanted to learn English and I helped them. Administrators were happy that I was helping their programs. Everyone lived happily ever after. The End. |

Is this thread about Buckland or is it about Jacob?
Or could it be to do with Buckland and Jacob together?
Maybe it is about Buckland and Jacob and our reactions towards them and each other?
Sorry, just curious! |
