Hi,
I am thinking of teaching in Mexico City this year so I applied for a job to different schools. They salary one of them offers is 9000 pesos before taxes. Can anyone tell me if I could make a living with this money? It seems rather low but I am only interested to know if I can live decently, I am not talking about saving money.
Thanks in advance! |

Ive edited this post- I woke up and looked at gross salary. I think you could live on that amount of money, but you would definately have to be conservative and not expect to save much. That would mean taking public transit, probably living with roomates, and dining at some more basic restaraunts, but it could work. Living this way, you would probably have some beer and travel money to spend as well. |

It's more than enough if you live like the average Mexican. Work out what you really need to spend money on in order to keep sane. There are foreigners here that live their lifestyle of home and have no money. There are those that live like the locals and find that they have money to spare. |

If you're talking about a certain large franchise that is advertising at the moment, I'd suggest you look very carefully at the ad. I've got nothing against the organisation, but paying 9,000 - 10,000 a month, with no insurance and having to share an apartment with other teachers, giving 2 months notice if you want to move out, AND spending your day on the metro travelling to business classes sounds pretty sucky to me. |

Thank you all for your answers, I have a pretty good idea now, not sure yet whether to take the job ! Hmm...as I am from Europe, this sounds like a great experience. |
