|

I just got done with my second year of EPIK in Korea. That's me in the blue
It was with the Korean Government teaching in the public schools and also public school teachers. Therefore, it is applicable / looks good for public school teaching jobs. I'm not coming down on the private / academy for profit teachers out there- I've done it too. However, I want to teach at ether a university or in a public school "EPIK" style.
So my question is: do any Latin American Countries have EPIK style organized, stable, and recognized public school English Native speaker programs?
Or am I better off choosing a large city in Latin America say: Santiago, Lima, or San Jose; travel there, find the government office of education, and walk in with my portfolio and shined shoes?
So far (online) I see a lot of opportunities for academy style for profit English institutes but nil public school jobs. I'd also consider a private school that worked like a public school (that is it is not an after school for profit academy) And yes, I have applied to some international schools- as I have an English teaching license.
Any help would be sweet! Don't make me go back to Korea. Those girls poke me! |

I hate that this is true, but...
You are simply better off not working at a public elementary or secundary school in Latin America. |

Hi Melee! Do you say this because the pay is low? Or are there too many hours you have to work? Or is there no Med / Acdt Insurance? Or do they have no organization?
My guess- it is just very low pay right? Or do they have you work 8-4 6 days a week ? |

| Private schools would be good, but I would stick with unis or language schools. |

Latin America is a big place and conditions vary from place to place, but generally speaking, public schools are not a good place to work. Pay is low, hours are long, and access to resources/materials is poor. |

Here is a thread from the Mexico Forum

You'll have to excuse some of the posts, we have a hard time staying on topic over on the Mexico board.
I think alot of the issues in Mexico will be similar throughout Latin America. |
