umm...wow, now I feel young. I am 23 and have my first teaching job in July.

Is my age going to be a problem?

I dont think so, too young for teaching at a university- there should be at least 4 or 5 years between you and your oldest students in a university.

Conversation schools you will teach anything from kids to elderly people. They dont worry so much about age, as long as you are healthy and reasonably perky.

Everyone has to start somewhere. I was 23 or so when i came here and have been doing it for 20 years.

I dont know about other countries but in Japan you will do an 8 hour shift with maybe 6-7 classes taught in a row. You shouldnt have any problems with being able to finish your shifts (which is basically sitting at talking for 3-4 hour hours straight). Stamina and a smiling countenance are desirable qualities.

Not have any serious health problems (alcoholism, drug dependency), STDs. don't have bad breath or nicotine mouth. Many work places are non-smoking.

I don't know what Paul means about smoking. Plenty of Japanese people smoke, and their breaths are HORRIBLE.

One thing, though, that you should know, is that Japanese workers come to work no matter how sick they are, and most employers expect the same from their foreign employees. There are usually no sick days in your contracts.

You smoke so little! I doubt anyone would notice and your age is not a problem. I just turned 22 myself.
