If there was 1 thing you could change about Turkey, what would it be?

Wasn't it Spike Milligan who said

"My one regret in life is that I wasn't somebody else"

Only 1? that's hardly fair! does that mean we can only put 1 post here?, as i have a list. Ok because i'm pretty new here in Istanbul i must say my biggest gripe so far would be the f***ing lousy, inconsiderate, totally moronic drivers. So i would change the driving habits here.

Expats who get in the way by waiting in queues and crossing the road all the time.

when i was here the last few time the crime rate was much lower. the baby boom in the 80's has created many problems and the influences from outside the country have eaten away at traditional ethics that most older turks still have. (ripping people off and stealing are two different things and ripping people off is not unethical but rather a showing of intelligence)

the violent crimes and the petty crimes have all increased dramatically

THE SMOKING.

I have NEVER seen people smoke so much in my life!!! Smoking in Turkey is never ending, incessant, all the time, all day, every day, every night, everywhere, in your face, around the kids... even the waiters in the restaurants are smoking in the corridors when they're not serving a customer... the bus drivers light up as they drive.. people don't even seem to notice the thick cloud of smoke in the tiniest room with no windows and no ventilation... even the baker has a fag dangling from his lips as he bakes the bread (mmm ash is good for your digestive tract)... Turks smoke like it's going out of style!! My poor wittle lungs. Hack!

I'm with Yabanci on this one. Hot, I can deal with, but the humidity just kills me and makes the city all the more oppressive and unbearable...

the 'Burasi Turkiye' attitude, and its attendant unwillingness to accept personal responsibility for things within one's own control, e.g. driving responsibly.

Parks or at least somewhere for the kids to play. No I haven't become all soft. But in the evenings the kids are all playing footie on the street and inevitably the ball hits a car once every ten minutes and the car alarm goes off. IT IS CONSTANT. i don't blame to kids. I just wish they could play somewhere else.

Grumpy old git.
