What is the matter with working 30 or 40 hour weeks.
Maybe the salary is not commensurate with 20 hour weeks, but then again, the more you work, the less you spend.
I think the more important question is whether you can ' legally live with your girlfriend' in company sponsored accommodation. |

I got done like a dinner by EF this summer as a conscientious part time teacher. If I had not been concerned with the kids learning something, and also gave he out the test papers with the answers I would not now be complaining, or adding my two bobs worth. If it 'aint in writing don't trust them one millimetre. They make their contracted teachers do 50 hours plus in summer. Their Chinese teachers get 600 a month, if they are lucky. But it's not the Director of Studies, it's the number crunchers in Beijing, and the hit man they send out that taints them. Also their absolutely ridiculous sales team and the textbook content. When all is said and done it is a school for rich kids whose parents are all high rollers in the government or connected to it. EF China is owned by the biggest transnational compnay in China, which, accidentally is owned by the government. The same company that recently launched in Beijing into Life Insurance. |

Yiwu is in the Zhejiang Province, south of Hangzhou. They will tell you that it is a stone throw from Hangzhou ( not a bad spot). But it is Hell on Earth!! |

I'm thinking of going to Nanjing with them. I'm already in China and am working for a private language school, so I thought a chain might be a good thing.
The woman I talked to seemed nice and said right now they are at 20hours a week, but that's a lot.
I'll see what happens. Anyone worked for EF Nanjing? |

Other than working 40 hours/week for 20 hours' pay, no one has given any concrete reasons why EF in China is shite.
Anyone care to elaborate with hard fast details |

Isn't this enough???!?!??
The horror stories are out there. Forced overtime beyond the 40, sometimes at no pay, seems to rank high on the list I've encountered.

MT,
Tis' true, that would be enough. The way everyone was badmouthing EF, I thought there was more to it than just the hours and lack of pay. |

I arrived in Yiwu to find there was only one other teacher and he had never taught before ( he turned out to be great) There was no Dos. Later 2 more teachers arrived, still no Dos and it was a new school, loads of things to set up. The school was not registered to employ foreign teachers we had to get visas through another school in town. We were housed in a hotel/brothel for a month. The students were "assisted" in their placement tests, so were put into unsuitable classes. The school heard that we were going on an outing one Sunday and 30 parents and students turned up to accompany us! On our day off!!
How's that for a start???? |

EF are generally considered the worst chain in China. If you work there and put it on your resume it will work against you with most people in hiring positions here. EF, Shane, Longre, Kai En are pretty stinky places. |
