Kia Ora from Ao-NZ,

Hi my name is Hoani and I've just graduated from the University of Waikato.

I'm 3/4 Maori and 1/4 Arab (Lebanese) and would like to learn more about the language and culture from the middle east. Since I'm fluent in English and Maori I'm wanting to add arabic.

Add to this the fact the I really need to save money so that I can do Graduate School in the UK which is going to cost a fortune.

I think KSA is a really interest country

I suppose my main question is that could I get a job there?

here are my qualifications:

I have a bachelors in development studies and economics
a BA hons in art history
I have teaching experience and love teaching but none in the ESL field
Im also sitting my celta in nov.

Also can you tell me what to expect? I also while studying made heaps of friends from there and really like the people

Thanks,

Hoani

I have to say that with your limited credentials you have almost no chance of geting a job anywhere in the Gulf. Then again, if your priority is to learn Arabic and become involved in the culture, why go to KSA anyway? You will have almost no chance to do either. Why not look into Egypt or Syria, where a beginner teacher has a better chance of getting a job, and where you will have much better opportunities to learn about Arab culture and language.

Are you sure?

(About the fluency in English, that is. I've no reason to doubt that your Maori is impeccable.)

Most decent jobs ın KSA requıtre AT LEAST 2 years experıence ın EFL.

Get that and you mıght have a chance. I am not sure how Saudıs would react to your Maorı background.

You say that you are part Lebanese so why don't you just go to Lebanon?

Kia Ora,

Thanks for the advice.

Cleo I live in an English speaking country. You might want to add to this that majority of Maori due to colonisation do not speak the language (Maori) and are educated in English. go figure - so was I.

Forgive the mistakes it was 2 in the morning Embarassed

clevamaori,

English teachers can be a bit hard on mistakes here... Laughing Are you aware that there is an edit button up in the top right of your message if you want to go back and fix typos?

But Cleo gives good advice here. With your credentials and if your goal is to learn Arabic, then the Gulf and KSA are not really a good option. You would be much better off in North Africa or the Levant. In fact, Lebanon would be a great choice (or Syria or Jordan or Egypt). You will not make much money, but you can live there if you add private lessons to some language school work.

As to saving money for graduate school, there is no way that you will be able to live and save money with no credentials... That's the reality of life in any profession.
