VS!!!
I thought one of the principles of these kind of forums is that a person can interract with others without having to declare their names and locations, or am I mistaken ??
I for one have no wish to broadcast my personal details, especially in my location. . Others may have their own reasons for wishing to remain incognito. Ex-Employers, Wives/Lovers/Husbands!!! even IRS!!!
Have you never sent a PM???

Goodness me... what a serious, literal fellow you are Duffy! Kuberkat and I have shared many PMs as a matter of fact...
...and if I got paid for every PM that I get on this board, I could have retired a couple of years earlier. You'd be amazed how many people are scared to post publicly at all.

I envy Duffy's prudence... identifying me would be a cynch thanks to my bigmouthed keyboard and any casual dalliance with Google, and it's too late now. Though I don't have too many secrets worth knowing, there are some things that may be better posted anonymously. With 20/20 retrospection...
VS, are you saying you get plenty of PMs from lurkers on the forum who are too shy to post? And I thought I was shy! |

Ha!! Yes, I get many PMs from lurkers - depending on the time of year, from a few a week to every day. Many of them feel that their questions are too specific or they are afraid of some of the posters here. (though the ME board is pretty tame compared to other areas on the forum.)

No kidding! Some of the forums have really quaked my own faith in humanity, and especially the TEFLy side of things. So I guess we're lucky to have you on our board, VS. (No wonder you don't have time to take up golf.)
Posters on the eslcafe forums do seem to fall into a few categories: askers, helpers, navelgazers (moi, par example) and vandals. Have I missed any? |

Isn't vandals too kind a term for some of those over on the Korea and China forums?

And the Taiwan forum (all the "professionalism" of China, just better paid!). After having my honour more or less ripped apart by one poster, I looked up his other posts. Every single one of them was not only contrary, but logically wonky and proof of inferior reading comprehension skills. There was even a thread dedicated to the suggestion of banning this poster, where a moderator intervened to say it could not be done, though he'd love to! |

I find that odd because there are people banned here all the time. But, ours is not to wonder why...
