What kind of an apartment could a single person get with a housing allowance of 55, 000 dhs?

Did you try a search? This has been discussed. Another option is to google up ads in Dubai. I recall a post not too long ago that gave some websites.

It's hard to keep track with the way rents have been rising in the past year or two, but 55,000 should still get something acceptable - not great, but OK. Do you have to find it yourself, or does your employer help you? What area will you be working in?

To VS- Yes I did but it wasn't useful

To George: The employer in question is the British Council in Dubai and this is what they give you. They do try and help- but I still think 55,000 sounds pretty low compared with apartments I have seen........

It's not going to give you a lot of choice, but it shouldn't be too bad and the BC's in an area which has a lot of apartments. I think you'll do OK.

YG and Afra- thanks for your help. I am still going to look at other offers before deciding whether to accept this or not.
