Hi all,

For reasons that not many people understand, it is my goal to work as an English teacher in Siberia either late this year or early next year. From the research I have done so far, I've found that most of the bigger schools are mainly based in the larger cities (as to be expected I guess). I haven't found too much information on getting a job in Siberia. If anyone is currently working in Siberia, or knows anything about where to look for information, I would be very grateful to hear from you. My qualifications are bachelor and master degrees in environmental engineering, and a diploma in TESOL (which is in progress presently; I intend to be finished around August). I've also learnt a smattering of Russian and am actively studying the language.

Thanks!

From personal experience, I would say avoid Surgut School of Foreign Lanaguages. I have a friend who started at this school before moving-on to a school is Ekaterineburg and I understand he was a lot happier at the latter.

If you have any specific questions about Siberia, let me know. My first TEFL experience overseas was over there.

And that friend scotti74 talks about is me! Yes, as you will see on this forum, the Surgut School of Foreign Languages is one to avoid. But let's focus on the postive.

If you look near Surgut, you find Nizhnevartovsk. I don't know much about the town or schools there, but I know they hire and it sounded good there. I work now in Ekaterinburg at an excellent school which is looking for someone right now (adverts to be posted soon).

I'm not sure why you are so interested purely in Siberia. Is it your Masters degree? Do you want to map new oilfields? Smile Or do you want to speak Russian with a northern accent? Basically, explaining your reason will help us help you.

Jess

PS to scotti74: How're you doing? Mail me...
