I left last month after many years in KSA.
As regards getting around and out of KSA
1) Very few women ever take a taxi alone in the Eastern Province. Not without reason. There have been a number of "temporary' disappearances. After their ordeal they were simply dumped in the middle of nowhere.
2) It doesn't matter whether you have a multiple exit/reentry or not, your employer has the right to hang on to your passport "for safe keeping". He decides when you can take off to Bahrain for the weekend, or leave the country at all. |

I would certainly counsel against travelling aroun alone with unknown taxidrivers.
As for the passports, some employers let you keep the passport - with multiple exit/re-entry visa. To me this is a litmus test. Decent emp, loyers do this. The rest do not. Ther same applies to health insurance and educational allowances. |

Rather an odd selection of topics for an OP. Anyway...

Have you heard 'a number of' reliable first-hand accounts of this? Not that I doubt that such incidents can occur in KSA or anywhere else, but you do hear so many rumours - and rumours of rumours - in KSA. Certainly I have not heard such stories in Riyadh, where, as I have said before, women routinely take taxis without incident.

This, of course, is not news to anybody. Your sponser is, in any case, the one who decides whether you get a multiple exit-reentry visa in the first place. |
