This might be the wrong place to look, but I'm applying for a McCloy fellowship to gather research for a book I'm writing on comparative systems.

If I get the fellowship (which gives me a stipend to live in Germany for a month) but don't gather the material for the book in that time, what types of job possibilities are open?

My knowledge of the german language is very basic, but I think I'll be able to navigate in Germany with it, and I do intend to learn the language eventually. For the short term, however, what jobs are there for an American English speaker in Germany with an M.A. in Journalism? Is teaching English a viable option?

Brian,

Yes, teaching English is always a viable option when one is down-and-out in Germany:) Much of what makes teaching viable is that it allows one's schedule a lot of flexibility, opening up other opportunities such as language learning, hobbies, travel, job search, etc.

Whatever you do, don't sign on with chain schools like Wall Street, Inlingua or Berlitz.

Good luck.
