| I'm off to a North African state soon to earn loadsa lolly but currently enjoying the delights of Poland.Since my last stay here some years ago I've gotta say that this place is now expensive. All of me ole shipmates, who remained here are earning around 5000zl/month and all are permanently skint. So we're gonna form and efl bank hiest gang and do bank jobs like in the film'Heat'.Has anyone out there got any good tips on how to do 'stick-ups' and look tough like Robert de Niro? As an efl teacher I've found that I'm generally the one being ripped off..... |

| It's all about the shades. Realistic-looking tattoos and fake scars are helpful, as well. |

You must've been earning that 5000 ($1250) in Warsaw. Hell, down here in Sosnowiec I made that last year and made out like a bandit. Ok, ok, I was working my butt off, but whatchya gonna do?
This year I'll be earning only about 4000/month ($1000) but only working about 25 clock hours a week including prep (last year I was working about 50 including prep)..
But have fun down in North Africa. Actually, I'd rather be there sometimes.. The men are better looking.. (yes, I am a woman!) |

Well, If I was earning 5000Zl a month, I'd be a very happy boy.
North Africa should be interesting.. I don't know about the men, but the women there can't be as nice as the Polish women..
The guys in Sosonowiec, musn't be that nice, eh Chris..? |

They're, for the most part, BUTT UGLY!!
If they're not, they've been married or joined to the opposite sex since they were babies.. Ok, ok, there are exceptions, BUT!
Ahhhhhh.. That felt good....
Back to your regularily scheduled program...
BTW, the women in North Africa will, for the most part, NOT be available, unless they are "working", if you get my meaning... Muslim men can marry non-Muslim women, but not vice versa.
After this year in Poland, hopefully I'll be moving to Germany.. If not, Morocco or Egypt look pretty good to me! In more ways than one.. |

| I'm hoping to meet up with a distant berber relative of the chief, a certain 'Mullah'd Al-Offfizead'-apparently a decent guy by all accounts. |

Po;and is a low-cost, low-wage economy. Sensible people spend their money in places like that and earn in a low-cost,high-wage economy (eg Saudi Arabia)
This is the end of today's class in Economics 101 |

Influx of NATO troops to Poland? When? why?
I can tell you what happened when UN troops went to Cambodia in 1992.
They were given per diems of 400 dollars-- in a country where the average monthly wage was and still is twenty dollars. First, about twenty thousand young women flocked to the capital for obvious reasons. Second, the accomodation rates flew up, dragging everything else up with them, and third, the locals got a very rude and unrealistic introduction to the discipline of the marketplace. Also, they didn't see much of the money trickle down, since the Chinese landlords and other intermediaries got the bulk of it and placed it in banks in Singapore. Welcome to the marketplace! |

Hi Biff,
Is Poland at the moment really as bad as you are making out?
Did you eat in the Arcadia milk bar on the square, or those fancy joints down on the Rynek? how much is Absolwent? locally produced fruit and veg not the supermarket stuff. I worked there for three years and saved enough to buy a flat in the centre. I guess it wouldn't be possible now they are coming close to doing the Europe thing. something along the lines of "Get your prices in line with ours and then you can worry about the wages inequalities after we have bought everything you have to sell" isn't it?
Are you off to one of those well-paid but a little bit dubious as there are not many ex pats who have worked there who you can get feedback from Libyan oil-field jobs? |
