|
|
A little question for those of you who are computer-savvy:
The notebook computer I brought to Japan with me finally went the way of the Samurai. I'm looking to buy a new one soon. I'm not concerned with too many of the details, i.e. I'm not worried about whether it has an English OS or not, whether or not it has 12 USB ports, etc.... I just want to know which model you would recommend.
Right now, I like:
The Sony Vaio models (14 inch or smaller screen),
The NEC LaVie,
and Fujitsu's Biblio.
But what about Toshiba Dynabook, or even Dell?
I'll thank you, in advance, for your input. |

Sorry.
I should have also included the price range I'm looking at:
120000 ~ 150000 Yen |

I picked up a Dell Inspiron B120 and I really like it. Nice but cheap. I think with the discount I ended up paying like 500 from Dell. |

I'll second the Mac Powerbook suggestion. I love mine. |

I ordered Dell in Japan and was absolutely blown away by the fantastic service.
Years later coming home customs wanted duty on the computer unless I could prove I bought it in Japan. I'd long since thrown the receipt out. A fax to Dell and a copy came overnight. |

Where do you think it was cheaper? |

Mac book. You can run Windows and Mac OSX on the new ones. Check out the Mac homepage. |

Sorry, Gordon, I don't understand the question. I ordered it mail order and it came from Ireland. At the time, that was the only way to get a Dell in Japan. Being my only choice, there was nowhere cheaper. |

I meant was it cheaper in your home country or Japan. But you answered the question now though. |

Hehe, you guys remember SCTV? I just have this imagine in my mind, a scene with some some poor redneck with a few missing teeth talking to new reporters and camera crews, saying, "I dunno wha happened... Muh laptawp jus' don gawn n' blowed up! Yup... It blowed up real good!" |
