This is what you missed. Go to this forum. http://www.eslcafe.com/forums/job/viewtopic.php?p=388450#388450 and read the last post by Henry Cowell. It's at the bottom of page 3. |

Hi, my name is Henry and i'm very lonely, i need to find love. Can someone help me please? |
Well Mick I've been in China with my buddy Todd lately and Jared told you to fly into Shanghai. We had a girl waiting for you with a big sign saying "Mick Luna" on it. But you never showed. YOu asked us to help you and we did. We even had a girl wait for you. She came back later and cried "Where was my dear Micky? He didn't show up. He was afraid to let go of mommy's hand and go abroad. Oooohhh Micky." One thing's for sure Mick you are one hilarious guy. |

Chris, Jared: Are you guys just that stupid? Read the entire thread. You clueless MF's are being allowed to teach people of any kind? Lord help your students in Shanghai. Whether Mick's hilarious or not is open for debate. On the other hand not necessary to debate your intelligence or lack thereof. |

Look I don't even know this Chris 420 guy. And obviously I can teach people of any kind considering the fact I'm in China now. Besides if your mad at the fact I thought Mick was hilarious, well what about that Henry Cowell guy, he also thought Mick was funny. Try giving him heck. Why is everyone mad at Chris420 anyway? And like I said. I don't know this guy. By the way Chris420, please stop acting like you know me. And besides. I didn't say that the entire thread was hilarious or dumb in any way. I did read the entire thread. I just thought that some comments were funny. Duh. |

Hey buddy. Girls are not any different wherever you go. If you have trouble in Toronto (I'm guessing that's where your at right now) you'll have trouble everywhere else. I don't think it's necessarily impossible for a foreigner to find a sincere girl, but I did not think someone would post a thread like this. Did you think we'd be able to reply and say "Oh here Mick. Here's a girl. Go to Shanghai. She'll wait for you at the airport". It's not that easy buddy. Try going to the bars and just approach some. Don't be shy. You've got nothing to lose. Date a few and see what happens. But don't come to China with a sign with your name on it and expect all the girls on the street to flock at you and say "Hey Mick wanna be my boyfriend?". |

Well I have to admit, I do feel sorry for this guy Laughing and at the same time I think this thread is somewhat hilarious. I couldn't help but laugh when I first read Mick Luna's post. |

Dude your lost man. You been lost from the moment you first weighed in. Micks post was tongue in cheek from the git go, you just never seemed to grasp that. Your comment about feeling sorry for him substanstiates what I'm saying. Let it go and better luck next time. |

(Sorry, couldn't resist: been watching the "I'm Going To Tell You A Secret" DVD. "The audition is not over." And the topic fits.)
Phew, Mick_Luna, for someone who is lonely and looking for love you certainly are mightily abrasive to people who want to be your buddy. . So I' won't even try. But I can give a small word of advice.
Are you looking for this kind of information in the right place? Even within eslcafe you might want to ask about this on the China Off-Topic board. But maybe other sites focused more on expat life can offer more. I know this board offers plenty of sparring partners with double-edged (s)words, like, say Henry_Cowell, but maybe more appropriate information (if not quite as lucid thought) is available elsewhere.
My own extensive musings on TEFLLL *Teaching English, Foreign Lust, Love and Language* have also been known to appear across this site when I'm not entirely absorbed by dealing with the queue of admirers that runs around the block outside my door. Now if you'll excuse me.... |

I would agree, WW, if only all the guys from my own culture weren't such schmucks not worth a second thought.
Not that I've changed my tune entirely: I still think it is unfair for Western guys to take advantage of innocent Asian girls' adoration of them. My sympathies have traditionally lain with the smitten girls who got hurt. But I have begun to wonder just how pure the girls' intentions are in the first place. Are they looking for love or a passport (or simply revenge)?
As to myself, I have the same benefit as Western men in East Asia in that I can take advantage of the stereotype held about heathen females. (Woohooo!) These stereotypes do not involve the abhorrent prospects of marriage or motherhood. So both parties know what they're in for and there is no deception. And since both know from the outset that a "future" is more or less doomed, no hearts are broken. Now if I could just mellow that mediterranean machismo to accept polyandry... |
