Can anyone help me with information on Zhuhai? It is often quoted on here.

Is this a nice city in which to live? As a foreigner, what is life like here? A good place to raise a family?

Some family of mine have recently bought a house there and tell me is is a 'paradise' city, but I have heard many Chinese cities described in a similar way that subsequently turned out to be much less. One recruiter even amazingly told me that Dongguang was known as China's most beautiful city! Luckily I was not that green.

Any info is much appreciated.

I've not been there but I'm sure Roger has many times. A former colleague spent about a month there and loved the city. It's in Guangdong, of course, but few of the Chinese people who live in Zhuhai are actually from Guangdong. It's a SEZ so I believe that Chinese citizens need to show their passports to even enter the city. I've seen his pictures of the place, it looks very nice and modern, and next to Macau. Also near Guangzhou and Hong Kong, of course. I'd say you can't go wrong there.

Yes, Zhuhai is an outstandingly attractive seaside town. Unlike Shenzhen on the opposite side of the Pearl River, Zhuhai is not a monster city, far from it! It has got wide avenues and green lawns, yet there are all manner of modern amenities. Besides, you can easily walk over to Macau.

Estates in Zhuhai are more like those in Hong Kong - often stylish, and a lot safer than those elsewhere on the mainland.
As for jobs, I know there are good opportunities. But the town is not overpopulated. Zhongshan (Dr. Sun Yatsen) University runs a campus here, which is reputed to pay handsome salaries. Private language institutes are relatively well-known and have no bad records, though the salaries offered are middle-of-the-road.
Travelling is still a little inconvenient as the motorway to Guangzhou has not been completed yet, and a railway line is in the pipeline (and was in the pipeline a few years before but was quietly abandoned, and recently ressussitated).

Few know that Zhuhai has an international airport 30 kms from Macau (which has its own international airport!), not to mention the two airports of Hong Kong and Shenzhen nearby. It is a white elephant, of course, with only a dozen flights or so a week!

But that will not affect your students' enthusiasm...
