My girlfriend has a job at UNISTMO in Ixtepec and I am heading to Colima, a helluva long way apart! Well, shes worried and Im worried about her safety in Ixtepec. She's traveled extensively and has lived abroad in France and Korea(not that korea even has a hint of danger) but neither of these places has the reputation of Mexico.

Has anyone lived in Ixtepec? How are the small Oaxacan towns for safety. Shes going to stick out like the preverbial sore thumb with her red hair and white skin.

If anyone, especially girls, can give her, and I, any information on Ixtepec then we would be very appreciative! Thanks alot!

Do you realize that the Istmo is an matriarchal society? Maybe you should be worried about your position in the relationship after they get a hold of her? Laughing Laughing Laughing

Ixtepec is a sleepy little rural town. She shouldn't be worried about safety, but boredom. Very Happy Seriously, it's a quiet town. She doesn't have much to worry about.

Well, yeah, she will stick out like a sore thumb, but she'll be perfectly safe. To avoid catcalls and the like, I'd suggest that she doesn't wear short shorts out in the street, but that's about it.
