Does anyone have a guaranteed cure for the Saudi Blues ?
A gallon of Sid ? Suicide ? Departure of a final-exit visa ? Conversion to the One True Faith ?
Or should I simply resighn myself to being a loser ? (See earlier thread on Saudi, an Oasis for Losers.) |

I think anyone who is a long-term expat anywhere in the world, is going to find themselves getting the 'blues' every so often. Seems to be an inevitable part of expat life. Things which you used to think were bearable - or even quite 'cute' - now seem anything but; the weather is driving you insane; the locals seem arrogant and incomprehensible; your fellow expats sem smug and jingoistic; the 'social' life samey and supercillious. I could go on but...you get the picture.
Is there a cure for the blues? I think in most cases it passes in a few days. If it doesn't, a holiday - even a quick weekend in Bahrain - is probably in order. And if even that doesn't work... then, yes, probably an Exit-only is the only solution. |

You must miss Saudi a lot then. You are on holiday and you can't bear the thought of being away from the place. The best solution is to stay during your holidays. Become a citizen. Learn the language. |

On penalties.

Come Euro 2008, maybe it'll be 3rd time lucky?
(For Portugal, I mean. Of course.) |

A trip to the Island of Bahrain and a stout Italian meal did much to alleviate my melancholy. |

La Taverna, near Gold City? Like Yorik, I knew it, a place of infinite jest!! Had many great evenings there, great food, pleasant surroundings, decent wines and delectable waitresses to look at and chat to
What's it like these days? |
