This is a question for those who are from other EU countries. I currently live in the Netherlands and that is the only country where I paid into the state pension fonds for a longer time. The Dutch pensions fonds offers voluntary contributions to their system if you move out of the country. The sum you have to pay is based on your gros income, but at the end of the day it is still quiet a big sum if you live in Turkey.
In my case I would have to contribute between 100-150 a month! (on top of that I have to pay off my study loan as well)

I wonder if it is worth doing it, maybe one day Turkey will join the EU and then I could transfer whatever I paid into the Turkish system to any EU country. Turkey already has some agreements about transfering state pension contribution to other EU states, but it is difficult to find information about it and your employer needs to be willing to put up with all the paper work.

Do you guys do anything to get prepared for retirement? Does someone know s.th. about transfering pension fonds contributions?

This would be very hard to find in Turkey.

If anyone has worrked and paid National Insurance in the UK it is worth investigating whether or not you can continue paying.

PM me for my spin on this.

Scot, would you be willing to share your information in this thread? I think it's good to know for all those Europeans who work in Turkey and maybe you have some information that get's others started.

In Holland you have to ask for an overview of your pensions before you leave, then you can ask the Social Security Office to send you an offer about voluntary payments. Within a year after you left the country you need to decide wether you want to voluntary pay into the system or not. This is possible for everyone who lived in the NL, you don't need to be Dutch citizen.

Turky does have an agreement with Germany and if you pay into the Turkish system you can get everything transfered to the German system. Although, by the time you managed to fill in those German forms you are ready for retirement Smile

How naiive to think that all of us get our social security paid for.

For example the largest employer of TEFLers in Turkey does not pay social security for its employees.

I intend to TEFL as long as I can and then go back to the UK and throw myself on the state. Although I have not paid any National Insurance stamps they will have to give me something and inshallah that will be enough to buy offal with.

You do not get enough of a pension to live on even if you day pay National Insurance. How naive of you to think that pensioners all get enough to live on.
