|
|
I'm still very new to the Japanese writing system. As it is I'm trying to learn Hiragana first as I've been told it's the simplest of the three.
I was recently asked if I knew how to write my name in Katakana, which I don't, so I started looking up the katakana symbols. Well, I'm still none the wiser.
How on earth would I write my name, 'Phil' in Katakana? Can anyone help, cos I feel like I'm missing a couple of pieces of the puzzle here?
Thanks.

Hi Smeg!
I'm writing on a mac so I don't think the katakana will come out but it should be written FU, little i, RU ... FUiRU
I hope that makes sense... But I'm sure a windows person will write it for you anyway. |

I just have to butt in and say that in my opinion, katakana is FAR easier than hirigana. |

You can learn either from scratch in abut 6 hrs spread over a weekend. Do a search for the book with the system (Learning the kana or somesuch, author's name is Heiszig, if I remember correctly.) |

I'd second this. I'm amazed that there are people who spend weeks or months learning these scripts when you can do it in 2 days using the method described in these books. The kanji version is also highly recommended. They can be a bit difficult to come by though. I got mine here: http://www.nanzan-u.ac.jp/SHUBUNKEN/contact/ordering_books_special.htm |
