Hey there;

Does anyone know if there are any vegetarian restaurants in B.A., or at least places that offer something close enough to vegetarian food?

I'm also curious about natural foods stores and yoga studios.. Seen anything??

A Canadian/vegetarian coming to B.A. in September,

Sabine

hi there.

there are a lot of good veggie restaurants here. there are a couple all you can eat ones. One is called Los Sabios, it is at 3733 Corrientes street. Its good and super cheap. There is another all you can eat restaurant on florida that i personally havent been to but ive heard its good. its more expensive though. its called granix and its near the corner of florida and peron.

my favorite is probably siempre verde, its in barrio chino in belgrano (near the juramento stop on the D line or at the barrancas de belgrano bus hub), which is hands down the best place to get vegetarian cooking products, lots of cheap tofu, soy milk, unusual vegetables etc... and a lot of other things that a north american may find missing down here. siempre verde has all kinds of fake meatish stuff in good noodle dishes and soups. they even have spicy hot food if you ask!

san telmo has a couple good vegetarian restaurants, one is called abuela pan, it is on bolivar on the north side of independencia (which makes it monserrat instead of san telmo i guess), it has amazing bread and good lunches. their hours are a bit limited though, and there is another one between balcarce and defensa on... san lorenzo street I think. its called flor de linos i believe. they also seem to have trapeze lessons in the back.

there are a ton more places, some asian restaurants and a place called krishna veggie lunch for example in palermo, and a place called lotos on cordoba in recoleta, which is right next to a dietetica (natural foods store) that serves veggie food which is called esquina de los flores i think. anyhow. there are a bunch of options. there is also the ubiquituous pizza and pasta. you can get that as an alternative almost everywhere. bread and cheese comes in many different shapes sizes and varieties.

good luck.

AWESOME!!!!

Thank you so much!! I was worried about getting there and not even being able to find any tofu or soy milk in the city..

You've just made my life alot easier... I'll make sure to try out these places you mentioned and experiment..

I'm one of those finicky vegans..

Thanks again, Sab

Hey there!!

By the way, I was looking my Argentina Moonbook Guide, and there's a vegetarian restaurant in Rosario, called the Rincon Vegetariano (Mitre 720)...

Just FYI, Sabine.

there's also a great vegetarian restaurant (they have fish too) called Artemesia on Cabrera 3877 (between Medrano and Acua Figueroa) in Palermo Viejo. I've only eaten there once but it was absolutely delicious. I think its only a dinner place.

Anyone have any suggestions for where to buy a good yoga mat for relatively cheap? I went to the yoga studio Vida Natural and they sell them there but they cost $120 pesos...a bit pricey in my book.

suerte

I'm a finicky vegan, too, just passing through Buenos Aires on my way back to Peru. I found a veggie place in Palermo--La Esquina de las Flores, at Gurruchage 1630, just a few doors down from a yummy Japanese restaurant (Kayoko) that also has a few veggie options. La Esquina de las Flores also has another location at Cordoba 1587, with a restaurant and shop. They were really friendly. Normally I feel like I'm being obnoxious by asking, "Does this have meat/eggs/milk/cheese/etc.?" There are a few other locations that are just shops, but I don't have the addresses.

You guys are sooooooo lucky!!! Buenos Aires is AWESOME!!!! I wish I could stay here longer...
