I just read about a teacher program where teachers work in elementary schools but are recruited through Omega education. It seems gvt run as the teachers on this program would be working for Taoyuan gvt and it includes orientataion and support

It seems similar to the Japan JET program - co teaching with Chinese teachers but all teachers on this program are qualified. I'm very intereted in this because primary teaching is my area, I want to go to Taiwan and the pay/conditions seem good 67500TWD for Masters degree. An y opinions would be useful.

I googled Omega Education Taiwan and did not find anything on this program, the Taiwanese govt. has deals with many recruiters and even some of the Foreign offices here, I know that in no way is it as organized as the JET program and I have heard many stories of teachers leaving right away as through this program in the past there has been little if any teacher support, this is an effort by the TW govt to get foreign teachers into the rural areas,

the salary is better than they were offering before, so you know this program started in Sept 2004, the first year 7 teachers total were recruited (they wanted 1000) and all left before the contract was due, maybe it is more organized now but I would not trust it....

It is common knowledge on Taiwan that the Native English Teacher programs run by the Ministry of Education (MOE) are little more than an opportunity for local MOE officials to graft money from school budgets intened for the education of students.
The Ministry of Education on Taiwan is one of the most corrupt and racist institutuions on Taiwan notorious for promoting racism and corruption through public education.
