You'd mentioned something about the women, but come now, are you really that much of a social leper that you cant get a date in your own country? |
My mention of women was a very small portion of my entire posting here. This is simply a shot at me that is pathetic and childish. The fact is that I am single - being so I am going to date - whether in my own country or in the one I am living. Never did I mention I cannot get a date at home, so I don't know how you think you can assume this. |

I think what drgonzo meant is that whether you're good looking, ugly, charismatic or socially inept, your pickings on the dating scene in Indonesia relative to that in your home country will invariably be better for any given individual.
That's my observation/experience anyway. |

Ya indo is fun for a bit, but if you really want to live you cant do it on a poor mans wage.
Whats that you ask, well rather than put in the numbers lets say;
1. Living the way you want
2. Have some to go home
3. Save an amount that gives you something for the further.
Wow just like what makes a good paying job at home! So you fill in the numbers. Anything from 3.5juta to 180juta. As for a competitive salary ? competitive to what and to who is the ?
Ya ist been good and bad just like home. Not heaven not hell just what you make it and what you put up with!!! |

Sorry, Dr.Dro.. didn't mean to hit a nerve. Anyway, all I'm saying is if Indo has got to you so badly that all you can see are the negative things, it's time to get out, like our friend here has decided to do. Indo has so much more than just Jakarta to offer and despite what it may seem sometimes when reading these threads, there are good jobs to be had.
As far as employers advertising 'competitive salaries' is concerned, would you not actually inquire before you accepted a position as to what that actually meant? You make is seem as though people take a giant leap of faith coming to indonesia to work, not knowing what they're in for or what they'll be paid. You're just plain stupid if you don't find out all the information before you get here. Getting a job overseas requires a lot of research. ...Or maybe I just didn't get what you were trying to say. |

I'm not white. When I traveled to some other Asian countries, they always tried to charge me more there. In Malaysia and Bangkok, I had to ask the taxi drivers to use the meter. Most of the times they tried to rip me off coz they knew I was a tourist. First visit in KL, I stayed in a run-down hotel like Rp. 300,000 per day and the service was so bad. Hot water didn't work. In Indonesia, I could get a good hotel with that money. In Bangkok, Chao Phraya River bank, lots of people pushed me to buy their stuff. So..reading all these bad things about Indonesians are trying to rip white people off...tourism business is always like that..not just Indo to white people. Even when I was in Singapore, there were some taxi drivers who told my husband, "Sir, I believe you're a rich man..so...giving a huge tip is no problem.."(p.s : my husband is not a white man). Overall, I like Singapore...very clean..but it's so tiny.It's a lot easier to manage than the big Indo.
and about Indo women who try to date white men to change their future...All I know is that, all poor women want to change their future. All women want to marry rich men. I've never heard a woman saying,"I'd love to marry a poor man so I can feed him." And these women didn't choose to be born poor. It's not just you, the white men but also the rich non-white men.
I also know an old western friend who really loves his Indo wife. He sent her to school. They're still together.
Sorry to say this but female travellers especially the westerners are more sensible. I seldom heard them complaining about Indo men trying to rip them off. I know some western women who were left by Indo guys after giving them so much but they considered the experience as their own faults or just the nature of love : you give your boyfriend as much as possible coz you love him. |
