Hey, I have a couple of questions for people who are currently working for AEON or have worked for AEON in the past....

1) Is it possible to get a part time job while working for AEON?

2) Do the teachers really socialize with the students outside of class? (eg- what are the chances of the students inviting the teacher(s) out to dinner or on a trip)

3) Do I really need a telephone line in the AEON apartment to connect to the internet? What if I have wireless? I asked a friend in Japan and he says that he has a 3000 yen/month internet connection which does not require a land line

If you have DSL service, you would need a telephone line. Even if you have wireless, the modem is still hooked up via a phone line. Cable service, however, utilizes the cable connections in your house and you don't need a phone line. Now, this is how it works in the States but I would think the technology is similar in JP.

Also, just a word of advice, if you have a wireless computer, hold off until you hook your computer up in Japan. Often times, you can use somebody else's signal and not bother getting your own account.

When I worked at Aeon all foreign teachers were considered full-time and had to be at work 8 or 9 hour days. I believe things have changed now, but really don�t know the details.

I can answer question two with certainty though, having worked at a couple of Aeon branches in my time there and spent time with teachers at other Aeon branches. YES you will absolutely have opportunity to spend time with students outside of classes if you and they wish to. I have been taken to festivals, invited to a student�s house to make mochi over the New Year period, been out to dinner or drinks with students. Students came to my apartment and we made meals together, some even became very good friends, visiting me when I moved and I even took a trip with one. Some teachers I know had relationships with their students, but that is something I never did. I lived in a very small town when I first arrived in Japan and my students were invaluable in helping me settle in during that initial period.

No foreign teacher I know has ever been part time. You'll be a busy bee.

I agree with the 110% remark. Chillin' with the students is encouraged. I've only been out a couple of times myself, but I got a lady who tends to monopolize my time.

It's very possible to get a wireless internet connection. I live in the sticks, and my partner in crime (the other foreign teacher) got himself an egg card connection. It's kinda slow and tempermental, though. I'd go with Yahoo BB, if you can. I hear it's good.
