Since getting a diesel car a few months ago in the USA, I've been learning to make my own biodiesel using waste vegetable oil from restaurants. The oil from Asian restaurants tends to be the best since they use the oil just once when cooking with it. Making my own fuel costs about $1 per gallon.

Here's the question. Is this already being done in Japan? Obviously people living in big cities don't have the room to be brewing their own biodiesel. But what about in the suburbs? Is there a company in Japan which collects all of the used cooking oil from restaurants? What is done with it? In the USA, it's easy to take it from the waste oil containers behind restaurants. But what about in Japan? Question

So, if it's not being done, there would be tremendous potential to set up a biodiesel processing facility and to sell the biodiesel, wouldn't there?

What's the cost right now for a liter of diesel fuel in Japan?
