i'm supposed to have an interview with a corporate dispatch company called zenken on monday. they have requested that i bring my passport, gaijin card and BANK BOOK. i know it's supposedly for them to be able to transfer salary into my account eventually but i haven't been hired yet. the passport and g. card i can understand but the bank info seems strange. am i being paranoid?

Search Zenken/Ziac and avoid them like the plague. I know people who have worked for them, and it's depressing. There is no job security with them either, because if for some reason the school doesn't like you, bye. They work something out to get you to become a subcontractor or something silly like that. The pay is bad. Stay away.

In addition, they do everything in their power not to pay the bonus, and use that as a lure to make you finish the contract.

Seriously, search Zenken or Ziac on this board and elsewhere and you should find more information.

They want to see your bank book from a Japanese bank, right? It's common practice to automatically deposit paychecks, so they would need your banking information, however...

1. To ask a job candidate to provide such information at an interview is weird. They must think you are already going to be hired, in which case why even interview you? Red flag.

2. If you do not already have a bank account in Japan, this is even weirder, since it will cost them (and you) money for such deposits overseas.

3. You should NEVER give an employer the bank book itself. If they want bank information, let them ask for the specific details. It usually means your name exactly as it's written on the book, the branch name and address, and the acccount number. No harm in that, but to actually give them your bank book is silly.

4. I agree with what canuck wrote. Zenken has a terrible reputation here. You can search www.gaijinpot.com for more gory details.

read more here on ZIAC Zenken in Kansai. The gaijin manager there seems to leave a lot to be desired
