Hi All
I have been offered a position through CfBT at Nizwa College of Applied Science (formely College of Education- I think?).
I have gleaned some info from this board and elsewhere about the town but would like to hear from anyone who has or is currently working there.
Thanks |

Well, I don't actually live in Nizwa, nor have I visited it yet, but friends and colleagues have told me that, on the upside, it is a very historic and cultural town. The route to Muscat (90 minutes or so) is supposed to be beautiful. The drawback is that people can be very conservative. It is the one place in Oman where I have heard of women actually being verbally and even physically harrassed without provocation. Just for the record. |

I would say it is possible but not likely. I have never heard of such incidents in Nizwa or anywhere else in Oman.
The only harassment would be a sideways glance or some youths shouting from a passing car - physical harassment? I highly doubt it. Oman is as safe as it gets - friendly, polite and welcoming - even the conservative areas. Of course , if you exhibit boorish behavior, prance around with cleavage and tight pants, reek of booze while shopping in the souk or disrespect the customs of the village, I would harass you too !
