Would a diagnosis of high blood pressure stop me from getting a work visa and permission to teach in Mexico? I'm not worried about life itself in Mexico -- I'm actually quite fit. I run a mile a day, for example. Also, would I still be able to qualify for the universal government health insurance after working 3 months in Mexico? Thanks a lot .... Suppa

I doubt that having high blood pressure would prevent you from getting a work visa or access to seguro social. I'm not sure that I'd want seguro social for medical insurance, especially if I had high blood pressure, but that's just my opinion. Dealing with seguro social could easily cause it to go even higher. Keep in mind, however, that if a potential employer doesn't want to employ you because of your high blood pressure -- or anything else including your age, gender, marital status, religion, the way you comb your hair, whatever -- he's completely within his legal rights to deny you employment based on any/some/all of those reasons.

Definitely, steer well clear of el seguro if you can. High blood pressure won't stop you getting a visa as there's no actual medical. The random stupidity and general lack of common sense in Mexico definitely raises my blood pressure... but you learn to accept Mexico as she is.
