Are you prepared for the army check-points in Mexico you will encounter in your bus travels? You will likely find them more intimidating than any officials in the northern airports, since they carry rather large weapons.

Several times while traveling by bus in Mexico we have had to disembark and everyone identified suitcases, opened them and were searched. They check for drugs and illegals routinely as a matter of security.
