Hi ESL Fraternity,
:D
I'll be coming to Doha in the first week of August and would need a laptop / notebook computer. Just wanted to know what brands are available, especially HP, Toshiba, Compaq, Sony, etc. And what about the price range.
I was searching through GOOGLE for any links or computer stores in Doha, but was unable to find any. Can you please help?
How about internet services? Wi-fi????
Thanks in advance
Cheers
:)

Don't buy electronic / computer goods in Doha. They are more expensive here than anywhere else where I have ever shopped. |

Most of the major laptop brands are available. You can get Sony laptops for a premium price (between 8000QR-14K qr), HP/DELL for about 4000QR to 7000, Toshiba for 8000QR++. You can take a look at www.jarirbookstore.com for some prices. However, it's cheaper if you buy one online. you can order directly at DELL US nd then register to Aramex's Shop & Ship (www.Aramex.com) wherein they'll give you an address in the US where you can ship your items to, and then they'll deliver the items here in Qatar for a certain fee. I think joining would cost you $30 (lifetime - one off) and then for the first 1/2 kilo, they charge you $8 and the next half kilo in excess would be $5.5 each... Still a lot of savings mind you. Especially if you buy a laptop from DELL in the US. They sell the items 2X the amount they sell them there...

Unless Jarir's Qatar prices are very different from their Saudi prices I doubt you will gain much ordering a laptop from the States after you have paid shipping and insurance.
Laptops are cheap in the Gulf now. |

Jarir's Doha prices are sure higher than their UAE prices! Just about everything in Qatar costs more. There is far less competition than elsewhere. |
