Thanks for post Mr. Dunlop,
I guess the main point is don't overstay your visa. I can see why someone from a third world country or something will overstay, because they are making some money over here and etc. Anyone else really just doesn't have an excuse.
To anyone else in this situation all you have to do is go to immigration and change over to a tourist visa after your work visa expires. You can do this as early as two months prior.
If the OP had done this he wouldn't have this probelm right now. He could wait here in Japan after his last day of work and waited for his new out of country visa to arrive and MAKE sure that his employer didn't screw with his final pay check and left on good terms with no worries.
He will be lucky to escape from here now and if his employer learns of this. It's almost a sure bet his employer will screw him over on his last pay check and I'm pretty sure that Mr. Dunlop is right. They will make you return to your home country and not Korea. |

*beep*.
I really had no idea this would be such a problem. I'm so ignorant. I figured they would just be happy to see me go, and happy not to speak to me in English...my Japanese sucks.
Thank you very much for the info. I'm going to enlist the help of some Japanese-speaking friends to try and get an emergency extension. |

Hoser, f*ck you. I've been a model citizen here. Especially compared to you.

Well let's see I've never told anyone to go f*ck themselves so I guess you've lowered yourself even below my apparently atrocious standards. I even said I hope you have no problems-just that you should hold yourself accountable. I mean you didn't even bother asking until the day your visa expired. You are an adult aren't you? |

Mr. John.
Best of luck. I hope you'll post again soon and let us all know what happened. I'm sure everyone would also like to know the name of this school which seems to have assured you that this situation would be no problem.
Again, good luck. I assume that you are visiting Immigration today. |

Okay, so I took everyone's advice very seriously. I went to the airport and bought a ticket departing yesterday night for Seoul, crashed there and came back midday today. I'm tired and had to eat some savings, but am not in trouble. I guess that's what counts.
I sincerely thank you for warning me.
As for the employer, let's just say it's a big one with four letters...and doesn't begin with N or A. |

Hey, same-day flights are expensive... Plus, at the end of July? Yeah, sounds about right to be honest.
But yeah, I was under the impression that JD's visa expired on Friday too... |
