I am not Mr Henry. That is an ontological verity.I was envisaging a fascinating debate instead of merely captious, carping, carking criticism
of literary style from the venerable old bats and geriatrics who hover around this jolly forum.
My question is who would you rather work under,an alcoholic Brit who rants because you don,t know his football team,a hard faced Amrican
feminist or a Muslim gentleman? |

Frank Verity aka henry:
This is kind of a no brainer. I'd rather work for an alcoholic Brit or a hard faced Amrican (whatever that is) feminist any day of the week. At least we'd be from the same planet and at least there's the possibility that they might be competent.
carking? |

I think Frank Verity aka Mr Henry is from Pakistan. Brits don't use such language and we'd never say THE Saudi Muslims unless comparing them to, say, Saudi Christians and Saudi Jews.
I'd rather work with an alcoholic Brit or perhaps a hard faced 'Amrican'
alcoholic feminist then we could 'envisage a fascinating debate' about the best drinking stories and hangouts.
Triple vodkas all round. Cheers! |

| The Brits seem to experience difficulty in adjusting to their new world role as America's pet weasel. This might explain their unfortunate predeliction for the hooch- the devil's brew. When will they realise that all empires must fade into dust? |

Good work, Tomton, I think you might have cracked this case wide open.
Frank Verity aka henry is either a Pakistani or an Indian. My guess is Indian. He claims to be from Indiana, remember?
Exhibit A: His pretentious, flowery vocabulary, eccentric phrasing and oddly non-native syntax.
Exhibit B: He clearly hates Brits. Look at these (rather hysterical) quotes:
elderly drunken Northern Englishman and a Welsh alcoholic
brutish British vindictive intolerance
incoherent snarls of an identikit elderly British drinker
an alcoholic Brit who rants because you don,t know his football team
His remark about empires must fade into dust clinches it. Hes Indian.
Now, if this sort of language were directed towards Americans, it wouldnt really help. Everybody hates us, but who hates the British? Pakistanis and Indians, thats who. Hes got a bone to pick with the Brits about something that some elderly, drunken, brutish, vindictive, intolerant, incoherent, snarling, alcoholic Northern Englishman did to him in KSA. I cant help being struck by the irony of his accusing others of being incoherent and intolerant, since he is clearly both.
To solve this case we need to identify the Brit described above (or the Welsh alcoholichow many Welsh alcoholics can there be?). He would have worked in the EFL department of GPT Special Contract Management in Riyadh for several years in the 90s. Once we do that, I think itll be easy to identify Frank Verity aka henry.

Given the choice of working with a hard-faced feminist, an alcoholic football fascist or a gentleman, Muslim or otherwise, guess who Bebsi the humanist would opt for?
I don't really give a typhus-ridden camel's tuurd what a person's nationality is, or his religion for that matter...I'm inclined to judge people on their behaviour and general demeanour. I've met Muslim, British and American feminists, some British Muslims, a few American Muslims, a lot of British and American alcoholics, a few Muslim alcoholics...throw in a few other permutations too...a few mutations for that matter...and what's my overall conclusion? Some were gentlemanly...even the feminists(!!), some far from gentlemanly, some pretty hard-faced (tho rarely pretty AND hard-faced ), and some were just downright obnoxious on every possible count.
Bebsi the pedant would suggest that it is acceptable to say either "he's a Muslim" or "he's Muslim", but not as a rule "the Saudi Muslims".
Bebsi the politically correct would say that the most puerile contribution to this thread is Peter Bar's. I know quite a lot of Muslim gentlemen. Indeed, with reference to the earlier part of the thread, one of the nicest people I met in Saudi was a student who was very much involved with WAMY (World Association of Muslim Youth), and was erudite, curious, generous, utterly devoted to his wife and children and open-minded. I had many students who were Mutawwin...some were gentlemen, some were obnoxious, and most were just ordinary people who were somewhere in the middle. No different to any other community really!
Bebsi the psychologist would say that Antonia V, you probably have some issues to begin with if the OP upset you so much.
Bebsi the feminist would say, girls you're also entitled to your views.
Bebsi the alcoholic would say right, I'm off for another double G & T.
Bebsi the gentleman would say...well...Bebsi admits to not really being much of a gentleman.
As Bebsi is not Amrican (sic), British, a football fascist, a Muslim or hard-faced (not normally anyway) he cannot comment from those perspectives.
Bebsi the introspective psychoanalyst would say, what the floody buck am I doing here anyway? I must have more isssues than anyone to even bother with any of this in the first place!!!! |

All of the above and none of them...maybe some of them...is Bebsi politically correct? Is he an alcoholic? Not quite shertain at thish moment!
Muslim? No. Not British, nor Amrican. Nor even American, for that matter.
Rarely a gentleman, even more rarely hard-faced, sometimes a feminist, sometimes a masculinist!
Usually psychotic, often paranoid, frequently neurotic...invariably schizophrenic...a man of many hats: lots of baseball caps, a stylish black fedora, a tattered Marlboro hat, a suave brown felt fedora, an old stetson, a Szekely gypsy cowboy hat, un beret francais, a few wooly fishermans hats, a fishing-fly-covered tweed anglers' hat...usually wears one at a time but sometimes in layers....
Now, where are those dang pills gone....?? |

Yes, Gerund is Bebsi. After much deep thought, which is something Bebsi seldom does, Bebsi has realized that most of Bebsis long, innumerable posts are nothing more than goofy, inane blather. Bebsi now understands that no one cares what Bebsi says, that Bebsis posts are smug, cutesy, juvenile fluff, that Bebsis humor is what you would expect from a 12-year-old girl and that if people do read Bebsis babbling, its only to wonder how Bebsi cannot see what a doofus Bebsi is. |
