Too big of a question! There are too many good Japanese cuisines for me to pick. I love good sashimi, though.
P. S. I asked the same question of a young Japanese monk (novice?) coming back from Koyasan, and he said "Pizza!" then mimed munching down a piece point-first. |

I agree with Wintersweet in that the question is too big and too many delicious foods. But one of my favorites is Katsudon. |

Im gonna have to go with other. It's not one type of food per say but its all those little interesting original dishes you get when you go to izakayas. Sure there is the standard izakaya fare but I always love asking for the house favourites. Currently at my favouritle little Izakaya in Sagamiono named KoKeKoKo, they have this traditional karaage dish drenched in a mayo/vingegar sauce topped of with stir fried onions and red peppers. It's a heart attack waiting to happen but I will cry the day its removed from the menu. Their raw ham ceasar salad with little balls of fried dough is to die for as well:) |
