Hello, I am moving to Quito in October to teach english. I have a year's experience as well as an english degree. Is it necessary that I take a tesol course to earn a decent Ecuadorian wage as an english instructor?

Thanks.

Necessary, no. Helpful, yes.

There are plenty of people doing alright here without one- though they often knew somebody, or just plain got lucky at hiring time. Some of the institutes don't care, but some do. And mostly, those that do are the places you'd be interested in working.

If you don't line up a job with one that doesn't beforehand, I'd go for the cert.

Best,
Justin

PS- To one and all- I'm still alive, but won't be here much for a while. Our new TESOL cert course is up and running! Yippee! I am SOO TIRED..
