There is a change to the TOEIC this year. I'm going to be teaching a TOEIC prep class next semester for the first time, and although I have a couple of textbooks from the previous (Japanese) teacher in that class, I'd like to know a couple of things:
1. What do you use (and perhaps how) now?
2. What changes, if any, are you going to make to allow for the changes in TOEIC this year?
Thanks in advance. |

hi Glenski... I teach some students Toeic ( privately ) and i have bought a few texts that i figure you may already be aware of.
I have a Barrons text... it contains up to 6 model tests ( and of course cds ) it cost 4725 yen ... isbn 89585 883-9 it was put out before the new changes but still gives a load of stuff to use...
and recently i bought a text called the Diagnostic Practice for the Toeic test ..it has a picture of a dart board on it..
it cost 952 yen ..isbn 4-87615-119-9
it is up to date with the changes
basically just loads of relevant practice stuff for the test
hope this helps ..good luck with the classes
cheers GK
ps bloody hot here in Sapporo today.. |

Barrons is very good. I used it with 600 Essential Words for TOEIC. Teaching the speaking component will be a lot more interesting than grinding through those texts though. |

Any other suggestions beyond the Barron books, ideally focussing on skills that will help the student study more efficently rather than doing endless practice tests.
Any feedback on Cracking the TOIC test from Princeton Review. |

'Target Score' for a more communicative approach to Toeic prep lessons rather than endless practice tests. It neither focuses on study skills nor does it cater for the changes specifically, although the more communicative approach would, presumably, help. |

Not being up to date on the changes, I can't help you there, but basically I have taught TOEIC and TOEFL in the same ways. I tend to focus on strategies and also on doing short sections of the test (2-3 questions) and then discussing why people chose that answer (in small groups and as a class). Just only practicing is something students can do at home on their own time.
I'll check and see which texts I have, haven't cracked them open recently. |
