JIC decided not to renew the contracts of numerous staff and yet both JIC and University College Jubail are advertising on tefl.com

What was the rationale for JIC terminating those staff? Were they too expensive (i.e. top of the salary scale and due massive end of service bonuses), incompetent, misfits, stale or a mixture of everything?

Some posters have said what a great place it is to work and I assume that this is no longer the case unless you are perhaps one of the lucky ones to still have a job.

I heard that it was a cost-cutting exercise. Strange when oil revenues are so high.

Is this type of thing common, BTW?

I have heard stories of people being mysteriously terminated just as their fat multi-year bonus was due to come through, but I don't know first hand of any examples of this.

Some employers - especially in the private sector - hate handing over that 5-month salary bonus when people leave after 5 years service !

I heard that the Academic Director tried to terminate a Nigerian teacher
because he lost a test paper after he marked it.The Managing Director,
apparently, intervened and pointed out that the procedure was for a teacher who lost a paper to receive a verbal warning.
Draw your own conclusions.

Don't forget that the 40 teachers kicked out is only a small fraction of the
total number of teachers hounded out by the ELC Director's manic sadism
over the past seven years.
The very high staff turnover is the reason why they are always advertising.even though their recruitment manager has also been stabbed in the back.

Having been involved in the interviewing for UCJ, I can say that the quality of candidates, both male and female is high, and the effort involved was considerable, probably because the MD of UCJ was the MD of JIC until the changeover.

I think Mr Jones should answer Mr Thrifty's question. The JIC/JUC is becoming the Tefl Twilight Home for the bottox set.

The fact is that if Steve Jones' employment at Jubail Industrial College
after 7 years of doing everything from teaching outsize classes to recruitment was not secure then nobody there is safe.

They just offered me 11,000 /month.You can earn 1,500 quid a month in Poland with a few privates...go figure. Is the kingdom worth it for such a pittance?I rejected the offer and am holding out for something else that pays a lot more and gives you 3 trips home a year.
