| Israel is the tip of the spear in the war on terror. |
Which partly explains why the "war on terror" has been such an unmitigated disaster. I mean, we're talking about an army which, despite the best equipment US taxpayers' money can buy, has just been utterly humiliated by a group of no more than 2,000 part-time "terrorists" with not a single Apache helicopter or cluster bomb to their name. Again.
If I were a US taxpayer - and I never have been and never will be - and quite apart from any issues of legality and human rights, I would be protesting loudly at my government lavishing money and advanced weaponry on people who are clearly not competent enough to use either very well.
In any case, you have stil not provided an answer to my previous question. Which is why, if Israelis are so brainy and so rich, they need all that American cash in the first place? Can't they buy their own helicopter gunships, just this once?

| Would you suggest that Uncle Sam give it to the PLO and the Egyptian "government" above the 7 billion they now get? |
You are clearly very poorly-informed on the modern Middle East. In addition to the fact that you seem to belive that the pampered (but brutal) Israeli army represent good value for money, you also seem to be under the impression that an organisation called the PLO is ruling in Palestine. It is not. You may also not be aware that the US, along with the EU and others, has cut off all aid to the democratically elected Palestinian government. And your figure of $7 billion in "aid" (really a bribe for keeping its deeply unpopular 'peace deal' with Israel) to Egypt is quite simply wrong.
When you've read a few relevant books, or even a few decent newspapers, come back and we might be able to have a debate. Alternatively, you might want to turn on your TV. I doubt even US 'news' programmes will be able to put a positive spin on your beloved army's 'redeploying' from Lebanon with nothing to show for it apart from a few ripped Hizballah flags. Which isn't to say they won't try, or that you won't believe them.
Oh, and in case one of our posters claims otherwise, I did not start this particular debate. |

If the war on terror is a disaster, westerners wouldn't be living in the Gulf.
I'd say Israel was more restrianed than humiliated.
They get that money because they have a strong lobby, I reiterate, it's money well spent.
PLO, PA they're all stealing the money and putting it in Swiss banks. Arafat left an estate of some 2 billion dollars. His wife gets a million a month and lives in a plush apartment in Paris. Eygptian "government" was in quotes for the same reason, maybe you missed the subtlety there. Is there one Middle East government other than Israel that isn't totally corrupt?
After nearly 25 years in the Gulf, including 7 in Iran, and 7 in Saudi, several in Afghanistan, Pakistan among others, an avid reader of newspapers, books and magazines on the subject I think I'm pretty well informed.
"Brutal" Isreali army?, How many heads have they cut off on video?

Answer this honestly, if you were to be dropped, without passport or identifying papers, in either Jerusalem or Riyadh or other Arab capital, as a westerner, which would you choose?
"nuff" said, as I don my flame proof suit and await another caustic, personal reply.
