my girlfriend is an american, and she recently moved to dublin. two years tefl experience in east europe, with no cert at all. got a job with a summer camp for a month, and now has a job with a fairly chaotic city centre school. i think as long as you're confident you'll do okay.

the tefl industry in ireland is booming. check the business reports.

can't say much about cork but try galway also i've head good things about belfast and dare i say it dublin, although the cost of living as a teacher could put a strain on your finances in the capital if not elsewhere.

if you can't find a school you must be doing something wrong. i know for sure that ireland is a top destination for esl students. get on a bus and visit the schools in person as there's no shortage of native speakers in eire.

one more thing, drop the armalite crap fellas, ireland is a much greener and more pleasant a land than it used to be. where've you been living???????? leave that kind of talk to the few remaining warmongers

sven

" I would OF thought..."?

I have seen this mistake many times over the years.

Are you an English teacher? I hope not. In the third conditional, such as above, we use the auxiliary "have" followed by the past participle of the verb. I hate to sound pedantic, but if you are not aware of this, you should certainly not be allowed into a classroom to teach English. Typos are one thing, but plain crap grammar is just...well, crap grammar!!

If you have your heart set on staying in Cork, you may just dress yourself up smart and go around door to door with your CV.

Ai, does this mean that you only have to dress up "smart (would smartly not be better, as an adverb?) in order to get a job in Cork, but not elsewhere? Or perhaps, that in Cork you just have to dress smart(ly), but supersmart(ly) elsewhere??????? Laughing Twisted Evil

On a more serious note, TEFL jobs are plentiful in Ireland in summer, not quite as easily found other times of year. However, the pay, while it is higher than most other places generally speaking, still doesn't allow a very extravagant lifestyle when one takes Irish living costs into account.

i hope YOUR not a teacher (sorry...you're). grammar nazism is just self-regarding pedantry. a short time in ireland will be enough to remind you of that when people stop inviting you out...
