No one every said that Peruvian girls are s l u t s. You really need to learn to read. Just because some of them are after money does not mean they are a *beep*. I have seen girls from third world countries get guys to take them on trips without ever putting out.
I am just cautioning that one should be careful with poor South American girls. That isn't to say that there are not plenty of nice girls out there. |

Virgo, have you learned the language of every country you have visited? I don't think that is practical to learn the language of every country you go to. If you are staying in Peru or another Spanish speaking country for a year, I agree that one should learn Spanish but just for a vacation, I think that is expecting too much. Sometimes people visit 4 different countries in a week. How in the world would they learn to speak every language? |

I agree when the tourists are not native English speakers. Asian tourists, for example, who don't speak Spanish will have to communicate in English--a foreign language! When the tourists are native English speakers, though, it bothers me when they just carry on in English without first asking, "Do you speak English?" or without slowing down or simplifying their language.

Are you saying that it is OK when non-native speakers don't ask if someone can speak English? |

Could you be more patronising if you tried? So poor girls are dangerous are they? |

Yes Jzer, I can read very well thanks mate, and it's not difficult to understand what you were insinuating in this post. I used the **** word because I prefer to put it into plain English. Maybe you should learn how to interpret your own posts. Try exercising more care with what you write in future. The Internet's a big place. Sooner or later you're going to upset somebody. |

Thanks very much for asking. Yes, I have and pretty fluently. I achieved it through a lot hard work, study, perseverance and by talking to the people of the country I was visiting instead of hanging around with whinging tourists who have no interest in communicating with the locals.
I don't think that is practical to learn the language of every country you go to.
Not PRACTICAL? Why are so many languages dying out throughout the world? Because English is the lingua franca and too many people have the same attitude as you. That's to say, "It's not important so I won't bother".
If you are staying in Peru or another Spanish speaking country for a year, I agree that one should learn Spanish but just for a vacation, I think that is expecting too much.
I met people who had been travelling through South America for 4 months and couldn't speak any Spanish. Is that expecting too much? You tell me Jzer. It's just pure lazyness and ignorance which is shamefully ubiquitous among native English speakers.
Language is about communication (obviously) and discovering other cultures. How can you possibly absorb a new culture without at leasat knowing the basics of the language? |

Hmm. Is it? Some folks are NOT good language learners - I know that I'm certainly not. After being here in Mexico for only four months I could speak relatively little useful Spanish.
I've been living in Mexico for a little over two years now, and my language level is perhaps a strong pre-intermediate level. I can hold a meaningful conversation, but I make a LOT of basic mistakes.
Contrary to your statement, it isn't because I'm 'lazy' or 'ignorant'. I've studied quite a bit - perhaps a couple hundred hours of lessons, plus my own private study time. I think that to expect Joe Average Backpacker travelling around in a country for four months to possess a decent ability with the local language is nuts. |

Well mate. You're entitled to your opinion. I'm certainly not nuts and I know the difference between plain ignorance and not possessing an ability to learn a second language. |

Native English speakers are not the only ones who travel around South America and do not learn Spanish.

Why should I be more careful? I said what I said and I stand by it. I think one should be cautious with poor South American girls. To be frank one should be careful in any relationship where there is a large economical disparity between the two people.

I amended my post from a lot to some but I will stick by that there are some easy girls in Cusco.

Furthermore, just because I said there were some easy girls in Cusco does not mean that Peruvian girls are s l ut s.
Last time I checked Cusco did not equal Peru.
Cuscuo (not=) Peru
I have no idea how the girls outside of Cusco are. |

It is not only native English speakers who don't learn the language. You can find French and Germans who travel around without learning the language. I see people in China, which I am currently visiting who don't know any Chinese. They are not only Americans.
Add to that that I can find Turks in France and Germany who can barely speak German or French. I have also seen many Chinese living in the US that can hardly speak English. I think you are too focused on native English speakers since you are one and are not really looking at the bigger picture. |
