dont know anything about the school, dos or owners. but about the area...... go to the middle of nowhere, turn right and go another 20 miles and u will be getting close. it is halfway between bogor and jakarta, maybe 50km to the center of jakarta, and maybe 30/40 minutes to south jakarta, depending on traffic. they have been building a lot of housing complexes in the area the past couple of years, but that has only made the traffic worse. most of the complexes have nice sports/pool clubs. but how many times can u go there and it still be exciting? nothing to do there and public transportion consists of a couple of minivans that u need to take to the main bus terminal down the toll road. unless u are married and have your own car, u will more than likely be bored to tears. |

Bad school, bad management, high staff turnover, don't pay on time -- the list drags on.
Then you look at the location and weep. |

Regarding your query about EF Cibubur- My advice is to stay away as the owner of this particular school can't be trusted at all !. How rare is that with an EF ? . He breaks promises, is happy for the DoS to employ anyone (Certified or otherwise) who looks like a native speaker- whether they are or not isn't a huge concern. If not, they are employed under a Business Visa. The fact that the other teachers (let alone the students) can't understand them doesn't enter into it.
I've even heard that due to lack of teachers, the DoS has had to resort to employing teenage girls (15-16 y/o from a local International school) as part timers. Due to the fore-mentioned events there has been quite a regular turn-over of staff in the past. It is likely to continue as the new DoS doesn't really have a clue either.
Better off looking at onother school like EF Pondok Indah or one of the Surabaya EFs as they are also taking teachers on at the moment.
Good luck Slightly- a year can be a f****n long time in a s**t school !. |

Cutsnake's on the money re: Cibubur but I'd also consider giving EF Pond Indah a wide berth too.
Not so long ago the DOS was insisting staff work on their behalf in a national plus school an hour from EF location. Guess what? You got paid nothing extra and ended up back at EF and working to 9pm at night.
EF... Wankers, the lot of them.

wow - am i glad i found this forum!!!
the 1st job i got offered was Pondok Indah (which i have actually heard good things about from past staff) but i just didnt fancy Jakarta! Then i applied for the EF Cibubur job but they didnt ring for the interview (which im obviously glad about).
I am also meant to have my phone interview for Kelt tomorrow (which i have heard good & bad things about) but after all this faffing about i have decided that i really would be better off starting somewhere closer to home to see if TEFL teaching is really the one for me - so im off to Barcelona in 2 weeks - thanks for all the advice everyone - i do hope to head to Indonesia at some stage in the future and all this has been extremely helpfull!!! |
