I got this email from my local Expat email post. Does anyone else ever have a problem with PSB raiding places where FTs hang to do a doc check or general shakedown?

Mr XX posted a message that there have been two random visa
inspections of foreigners in DJ House and Bar Street in the last 2
days. I have pasted his message below. Mario heard from his friends
that the same thing has been going on in Xiamen AND PEOPLE WITHOUT
VALID WORK VISAS WERE DETAINED AND EVEN DEPORTED!!!
So, it appears that you should lay low if you are currently on a
tourist visa.
If you have a work or business visa then you should carry your
passport with you these days to avoid detention and hassle.

Wednesdaynight at DJ House all the lights came on, 30 soldiers and a
dozen police officers came in looking for foreigners, my colleage had
to stay and I was escorted home to show all my documents...the entire
thing took arround 2-3 hours.
(And lucky for me all my working permits and health certificates
checked out)
Yesterdaynight at barstreet the exact same thing happened (!) so if
you're planning on going I suggest you bring a copy of your visa with
you just in case. |

Jeff, you are a China-veteran.
You should know that this happens all the time. There is nothing new here with these random visa checks -- they may be just occuring a little more frequently these days in certain places.
I hope that your papers are in order now. |
