No idea, just leave the country taking it with you. You'll get some dirty looks though (I've been told) |

If you start working before July 1st of the calendar year, yes. If not, nope. You need to be working for more than 183(?) calendar days in the same year to get your tax rate lowered. |

Thanks for clearing that up - i was all confused with January and may and things. I have enough problems understanding my tax here in the UK!!
So, if I arrive on 1st December, I pay 20% for that month, which I cannot claim back. I then pay 20% tax until July, 10% of which I can claim back the next May?
Is that right? |

Basically, but ...
7% you can claim back (the tax rate is 13% for NT$370,000 - 990,000 per year. This is the tax bracket most people fall into).
You can also claim up to NT$193,000 in deductions for the year, so you will get the full 13% back on this (NT$25,090).
This addition will make it seem like you are getting around 10% back.
Depending on how much you earn, you should get a rebate between NT$35,000 - 60,000 in the first year. This will drop to around NT$15,000 - NT$25,000 in subsequent years. |
