I want to go to Tokyo in the beggining of December of a WHV. I plan on spending 6 months there, and I hope to save up enough money to take a trip in the summer.. thatll probably cost $4-5k US.
Is this a possible goal?
Oh, and Im planning on teaching english full time. |

Anything is possible, but I will caution you that December is the deadest month of the year for hiring because of the shutdown that takes place at the end of December and beginning of January for the holidays.
You want US$4000 in 6 months? That means a savings of $670 per month. In my opinion, you are going to have to be fairly frugal and/or work pretty hard to earn that much.
On a regular eikaiwa salary of 250,000 yen/month, an average expenditure would burn half of that every month for basic necessities. So, how you spend the remaining 125,000 is up to you. We don't know if you have any outstanding debts back home, or what you plan for a lifestyle here, or exactly what your rent is going to be, but you should be able to save up the amount you want if you are thrifty and money-wise. |

Would you recommend going in January instead?
Also, is it possible to secure a job here (in canada) before I head over? |

January might not be a bad time. People go home for the holidays and don't return. It happens, and a spot opens up. |

I know that American Tesol Institute has a bad rep (and it may be for good reasons) but they claim to get you a job before you go. So like if you wanted to go in January, then you apply like three months early and go in January. Now, we havent really gotten to that part in the American Tesol progress, so it may not work. But you could look into it....?
Oh you have to pay $250 to take an online class. :0 |

Remember you get paid a month later too from when you start work, sometimes 6 weeks later depending on when the companies payday is. Often you have to scrape by your first few months, get settled. I would plan on staying 9-12 months, securing part-time jobs and at the end of the year, you'll be able to have more than your goal moneywise. |

Yes, even February would be better. The first week in January still sees many places shut down from the holidays, and it takes time for things to get started again. Not too many places are likely to be in hiring mode right after the holiday.

Yes, possible, but I couldn't say how likely. NOVA hires people on a WHV, but they must have at least a year of college under their belt, too. Ask JAWHM for advice.
