Well I have been living in Argentina since November of 2005. So far I have been doing pretty well, figuring things out and getting things done. Well I have hit a snag!
I am trying to become a legal resident (don't laugh). I need to get my birth certificate "apostled". It has taken me about three weeks to figure out what that means (and my Castellano is very good). I have spoken to the U.S. embassy and they didn't know what I was talking about (maybe I was talking to the wrong person).
My understanding is it is a verfication type seal used by countries that recognize the "Hauge" (sp?) treaty.
Where and how do I get my U.S. birth certificate "apostled"!! |

in the States by the local office of the state department. contact your home state's government for more details. i'm surprised the embassy didn't know anything, it's a standard (and pretty pointless) procedure that most countries in the world have signed up to. it's an 'apostille' you're after. |

Yah, it's called an Apostle's Seal, and what happened was that whole bunch of countries had this convention at the Hague back in the 60's or 70's, and they agreed to use this system in order to ensure that one country accepts another country's official documents, like Marriage Certificates and Birth Certificates.
Hey, I just became a permanent resident myself - I moved here on June 25th, and entered the country on a permanent visa - so I may be able to give you some pointers. Actually, I think I could probably definitely give you some advice on some things, like getting your DNI once you've been accepted as a permanent resident. Feel free to PM me. Or call me at 0220-4854-781. My in-laws will probably answer the phone, so don't be deterred by that. Oh, and don't call before 10 A.M., between 3 - 6 P.M., nor after 12 midnight. Thanks
