I am thinking of moving down to Santiago in the beginning of September to take a TEFL course and then look for a teaching job. I have one year of experience teaching esl under my belt. My problem is that I read that companies generally only hire full-time in March-April. Is this true? Has any one out there moved to Santiago in September-October and been able to hold themselves over until hiring season or is this pretty much impossible? Any advice would be appreciated

i am not sure about companies, the universities and all that do need you more at a different time but you will surely be able to survive on privates which come and go as they please. there is no specific date for them at all. now, if you are concerned about getting a visa, and don't want the hastle of going to mendoza, then that's a different thing and then you might want to consider coming here later. but, you do get a 3 month visa anyway and that may be enough to give you time to find a contract. |
