Hi there,
I am interested in teaching in Abu Dhabi and would like to know if anyone can help me in assessing an offer that was made to me for a primary years teaching position. I have nine years experience and hold TESOL qualificatins. The offer involves the following.
- $49,000 (annual salary tax free).
- Accomodation allowance 50,000 Dirhams.
- Return airflight only for me. Not family.
- Medicall insurance..
I was told the living expenses were not expensive especially for food. Is this true? Also what could I be expecting to spend on setting up house ? The accomodation allowance does not include furniture.
I must mention that I have two children, who will also need to be enrolled into an international school . |

Id say that it would be a great offer if you were single and it sounds as if they are hiring you single status. Someone with a family should not even consider a position that doesn't include flights for their families. Is the family covered for medical? School fees will be huge. I'd say that the housing allowance is rather small and furnishing it will cost you quite a lot as you will need to buy all appliances and furniture... and prices can range dramatically... though one can haunt the used furniture stores and perhaps find bargains.
Living expenses depend on your lifestyle. I would not consider it a cheap country.
Personally I would only take a job where you are hired family status.
